Early Life and Education

Andrew Ng was born in the United Kingdom in 1976 to parents Ronald P. Ng and Tisa Ho, both immigrants from Hong Kong. His early interest in math and computer science led him to enroll at Carnegie Mellon University in 1997 to pursue an undergraduate degree in computer science. The University of California, Berkeley awarded him a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer sciences in 2002.

Personal Life 

In his personal life, Andrew Ng is married to Carol E Reiley, a computer scientist and entrepreneur. They have two kids. The couple is well-known for their contributions to the tech sector and dedication to the development of AI. The MIT Technology Review also name the couple as “AI power couple”.

Career 

Andrew Ng’s illustrious career in AI is marked by pioneering research and influential roles. In 2002, he began teaching at Stanford University, and in 2009, he was promoted to full professor. 2009 saw him co-found Stanford’s Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (SAIL), which has since grown to become one of the world’s preeminent hubs for AI research.

Contributions

He established the Google Brain project in 2011, which was the first to apply deep learning to tackle challenging AI issues. In 2012, he and other founders created Coursera, an online learning network with more than 3,000 courses from more than 200 universities. He became Chief Scientist at Baidu in 2014, overseeing AI and machine learning development. Ng established Landing AI, a corporation that creates software with artificial intelligence for companies, in 2017. He is also co-founder of the AI Fund in 2019, which is a venture capital firm that finances AI startups in their infancy.

Founding Coursera

2012, Andrew Ng co-founded Coursera, a groundbreaking online learning platform. By providing courses in artificial intelligence and machine learning, Coursera transformed education by democratising access to it for millions of people throughout the globe.
